All of us at some stage have been guilty of letting clothes go to waste. Whether it’s never been worn or worn to death, there’s plenty of options to get the most out of your clothing or throw it away ethically. Just chucking it in the bin won’t cut it, as millions of clothing articles end up in landfill and creates a strain on our environment. So, what can be done?

• Charity shop donations – Generally, this is best for items in re-wearable condition. Your local charity shop will be grateful for your donation and it will help generate money for good causes!
• Textile banks – This can be for items in the direst of conditions. You can locate your local textile bank here.
• Recycle on the high street – Several high street stores like H&M, M&S and Zara offer incentives if you recycle clothing in-store. For example, H&M will give you a £5 voucher as a thank you.
• Upcycling – If you’re feeling creative, upcycling is in! All it takes is a basic knowledge of sewing. If you’re not confident with your sewing skills, you can always take broken/unwearable items to a seamstress or tailor to help it get back in a wearable condition.
• Swishing – Swishing is when you throw a clothes-swapping party. Invite your friends over for a few drinks and ask them to bring some of their unwanted clothes! You can also find swishing parties here.
• Reselling – You can easily snap a picture of your unwanted item and upload it to Depop, eBay, or Facebook marketplace and make a little money on your clothing! This way your clothes get to be loved again. If you want to go old school, why not head to a car boot sale?
